Q&A 12.23.23

QUESTION

Hey guys, back with another question in regards to the Blackwater Wildland program as that’s my full time job. I’m also a national guard infantrymen who wants to stay fit for that role as well. For the Barbell complexes the recommended or example used is a max of 135. I’m currently 6’ 205# maxing at 170. My question is what is the ideal weight based on? Is it recommended that I begin sacrificing some strength and get smaller and faster? Use lighter weight for more or faster rounds?

ANSWER

There really isn’t a ideal weight, it’s based on what your current capability is. The follow on progressions dictates the loading, which should be tough. If you’re struggling with the progression you can drop the loading by a additional 10#. Ideally, you should be able to complete the whole complex smoothly…. no dropping the barbell or very long pauses between movements.

QUESTION

In the Hypertrophy for Skinny Guys. I’m looking at the Sample Training section. There are sections of prescribed rounds with a few exercises. Are the exercises meant to be supersets or completed independently?

ANSWER

So for Part 1, you would do 8x Front Squats immediately followed by 6x Pull Ups, then the hip flexor stretch as your rest. 6 Rounds = 6 Sets.

QUESTION

I wanted to look at purchasing the BJJ Hero program. Does the 25% discount apply to this program?

ANSWER

If you buy two of the plans the discount will automatically apply. The packet (all 5 plans) already has the discount applied on the product page.

QUESTION

I’ve bought multiple packets from MTI before, I love the programing and what Rob is doing here. What can I look forward to with the daily subscription? Would I get it a week at a time? Sometimes my schedule gets disrupted mid-day and I have to shift

ANSWER

Glad you’ve enjoyed it! The cycles are one-month long, rotating emphasis between strength, work cap, and endurance. Very similar style programming to the Gun Maker plans. I upload these cycles a few days before the new month in full, and also keep 6 months of previous programming up if you want to explore some different options.

QUESTION

Coming off an injury. I did the Arm injury Program during my recovery. Currently Week 4 on LE On-Ramp. I am planning on attending US. marshals academy in May. Plan to do the SWAT Slection prior too. Looking for info for the middle weeks in-between the On Ramp and SWAT Selction programming. I am also fully clear from a distal bicep tear. Full duty

ANSWER

Two options: SWAT/SRT Gun Maker Packet (https://mtntactical.com/shop/swatsrt-gun-maker-training-packet/) or Daily LE SWAT/SRT Subscription (https://mtntactical.com/shop/daily-le-swat-srt-training-subscription/). Both are base fitness training which will take you up to the start of the SWAT Selection plan start date. The Packet will be too long, but two of the plans within would meet your time.

QUESTION

Quick question I want to do your through hiking workout so I purchased hiking prep but I still think I’m not there yet. I’m 267 5 10 and 49. I’m returning to exercise. Can u suggest a program to start before I get into the mountaineering program.

It sounds like you’ve got a good amount of weight to lose. Start with the Fat Loss Training Plan (https://mtntactical.com/shop/fat-loss-training-program/), followed by Bodyweight Foundation (https://mtntactical.com/shop/bodyweight-foundation-training-plan/).
Once you’ve completed those plans, reach back out and we can determine a best course of action. Tighten up the nutrition!

QUESTION

Due to my current work schedule, it would be very difficult to perform the DEA PTT Training Program as described. I have been doing a 3 day split workout routine, can this PTT program be tailored to a 3 day split?

ANSWER

Yes, it can, simply complete the programming sequentially. Sessions 1-3 on week 1, sessions 4-6 week 2, etc.

QUESTION

I recently completed your On-Ramp program and then took your Operator Ugly self-assessment. Based on my results and goals, I’m hoping you can direct me towards the next program or set of programs that I should take on. Thank you.
Goal
I am a physician in the Army and want to work with SOF forces when I am finished with my residency training. In the next two years I want to develop my level of fitness to be balanced and at the operator level, such that I could then easily prepare for a selection program (e.g. RASP 2) at that time.
Operator Ugly Points
Front Squat: 2
Bench Press: 11
Hinge Lift: 4
Sprints: 29
Pull-Ups: 8
Sandbag Get-Up: 20
3 Mile Run: Fail (33:01)

ANSWER

Thanks for the data! The best course of action is to start with the Military On-Ramp training plan, followed by the Daily Operator Sessions. That will develop a very strong base of fitness in your remaining two years of school.

QUESTION

I recently purchased the RASP 1/2 training program which is 8 weeks in length. I currently have 14 weeks til I report for RASP 2  and was wondering what the best course of action would be for those extra weeks? Thank you for your time.

Overall my biggest area of weakness at this time is trying to reduce my run time/ increase endurance both unloaded and loaded.
If “100%” is the endstate to show up at, I would realistically place myself at a 65-70% solution as of now in most areas.
Of note, I am currently deployed until end of Jan, so trying to maximize my time spent training until I get back home.
Thanks for any insight

ANSWER

Knock out the Run and Ruck Improvement Plan now. Complete weeks 1-5, then skip to week 7 so you get an appropriate de-load before starting the RASP Training Plan. That will set you up for success.
