Comments:
The goal today is first shot accuracy. To warm up, myself, and shooting instructor, Brian Bishop, did ball and dummy drills using the 3 or 4 second par (for kneeling with rifle), and then did this event. There is no physical stress today – it seemed the stress from the timer alone worked wonders on increasing stress levels.
A couple hints …. You have more time than you think. Accuracy before speed. Also – trigger control is everything. Good trigger control meant I hit the target. Bad trigger control meant I didn’t. I knew if I’d scored a hit the second I pulled the trigger.
No fancy shot timer? Surefire offers a free iphone app: “ShotTimer” – We’ve used it and it works well – and it’s free!!
Finally, I like to take a breath and hold it during these events. I find this better then exhaling and firing at the bottom of the breath.
See clip for some highlights. Here’s how Brian and I scored today.
You’ll see below how much better I shot standing. It shouldn’t be that way – last winter I tweaked my knee skiing, and can’t get into my familiar kneeling position anymore – so I’m learning a new, lean forward position, and don’t have it dialed yet. Consistency is accuracy….
